Showers are one of the most relaxing parts of your day, the warm water on your skin, alone time, and singing in the shower. But what happens when you have a leaky shower head? Not only is the dripping sound annoying, but your water bill will also increase as water drips down your drain. Read our steps below on how to fix your leaky showerhead.
Step 01 Remove Your Shower Head
Before you can diagnose your problem, you will need to remove your shower head. First, make sure your water is completely off. Begin by turning your showerhead counterclockwise until it is removed. If you are struggling to remove it, a damp cloth can help, or you may need pliers if that doesn’t work.
Step 02 Inspect and Clean Your Shower Head
Once your shower head is removed, you can begin to inspect it for issues. If you notice that the rubber or plastic washer on the inside has changed shape or is damaged, then you should replace it asap. If you notice any damage inside your showerhead, then it would be best to replace it as well. If there is no damage, then clean your showerhead! You can do this by boiling 3 cups of vinegar with some water and soaking the shower head for 30 minutes.
Step 03 Tape Your Threads
If you notice your threads are damaged, then put a strip of Teflon tape around the tip of the pipe system and wrap it in a thin layer. This can help to erase your leaking problems if your washers and showerheads aren’t damaged.
Finish: Put Your Showerhead Back On
Once you have completed the above steps, then you can put your showerhead back on. If your showerhead is still leaking after all of this, it is best to contact a professional to get help with a diagnosis of your issue.
